Maximum care, immediate squeak.
Every exit has acoustics.
He planned silence. The sneakers planned an announcement.

Tiptoe waits until the farmhouse settles, checks both hallways, and lifts one red sneaker with professional care. The first board behaves. The second offers a tiny complaint. By the third step, every hinge, bowl, and sleeping floorboard knows he is leaving. He continues at exactly the same cautious speed.
Back DoorTwelve careful steps away, acoustically much farther.
Each surface presents a fresh negotiation. Linoleum chirps near the biscuits. Painted stairs answer one foot at a time. Polished stone carries news farther than expected. Tiptoe never runs; running would admit the operation has become noticeable.

Maximum care, immediate squeak.

Suspicion dislikes a confident tail.
Nothing about the route changes, because changing it would suggest the route is flawed. The tail stays high, the paws stay raised, and the next step receives the full concentration usually reserved for safecracking.
Quietly, as loud as possible.
